Invasive Species Pull

Join 6th-grade teacher Leah Saada-Sherman to pull invasive plant species from the trails of Corbett’s Glen and replace them with native species.  To learn about the hazards posed by invasive species, watch this video.

Sing-Along at the Gables

Brighten the residents’ day by singing songs and leave them with a cheery, hand-crafted memento of your visit. The Gables of Brighton is a senior living community centrally located in Rochester, New York, offering full-service Independent Living in a lovely setting close to a host of conveniences. Residents enjoy a warm, welcoming ambiance enhanced by the community’s intimate design, with common areas just steps from individual senior apartments. A full range of services and amenities are available along with important safety features.

Spring Clean-Up at Wild Wings

Help clean up for all the birds of prey that live at Wild Wings and support their mission of environmental conservation through education! Wild Wings Inc. is a not-for-profit educational organization including the bird of prey facility and the Mendon Ponds Park Nature Center. They care for permanently injured and non-releasable animals unable to survive in the wild.

Brighton Food Cupboard 

Collect all the food and household items Temple Sinai’s congregants have generously donated to bring them to the Brighton Food Cupboard. Once there you will get a tour of the operation before helping to weigh, sort, and then put away the items. The Brighton Food Cupboard at JFS “provides weekly food deliveries, including Kosher, vegetarian, and gluten-free options, directly to individuals and families.”

Spring Clean-Up at Temple Sinai

Assist with the Temple Sinai spring clean-up! Bring your tools and gardening gloves! The Temple Sinai Garden Team was established in 2013 to maintain and improve the Temple’s garden beds. We aim to have planting that will give all-season interest, be low maintenance, and be deer resistant. Work as a team in one of our 12 designated areas or as a general helper! Please bring gloves, rakes, clippers, weeders/diggers, and tarps if you have them. Volunteers with all levels of gardening experience are welcome.

Pencils & Paper Sorting 

Help sort, stock, and bundle items to put out in the Pencils & Paper store for teaching “shopping.” Pencils & Paper, a program of Jewish Family Services, serves the educational and creative needs of children in the greater Rochester area by providing free school supplies to teachers in high-poverty schools. Teachers can shop twice annually and receive an estimated $1,400 of school supplies on each shopping trip.

Lollypop Farm Blanket Making

Provide for the animals at Lollypop Farm by making them comfy blankets. Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, has been helping animals and people since 1873. Support from the community enables around 115 staff members and more than 800 volunteers to care for around 10,000 animals each year. They also create programs to address issues contributing to the surrender of unwanted animals.

Postcarding for Reclaim Our Vote

Take part in the Every Voice, Every Vote campaign by writing postcards to communities with low voter participation due to voter suppression of BIPOC. The Reform Jewish Movement is partnered with the Center for Common Ground’s Reclaim Our Vote (ROV) Campaign to empower under-represented voters one vote at a time!
